Sanaa:The Second Criminal Division of the Capital Secretariat Court of Appeal has reviewed the public prosecution's response regarding the appeals filed by the defendants convicted in the murder case of Hisham Humaid Al-Kayyal and his wife, Asmaa Abdu Al-Dubaibi. The couple was killed on Khawlan Street in Sanaa.
According to Yemen News Agency, the prosecution has called for the dismissal of the appeals, urging the court to maintain the original verdict, citing a lack of new evidence. The prosecution's argument included references to the defendants' confessions, witness testimonies, forensic evidence, and surveillance footage.
During the session, the court also listened to arguments from the victims' families' lawyer and received responses from the defense attorneys representing some of the convicted individuals. Additionally, the court appointed legal counsel for a defendant who remains at large and decided to adjourn the case to a future date.
The initial ruling on June 30 saw six defendants convicted, including one fugitive, while a seventh was acquitted. The convicted parties were sentenced to death by firing squad for murdering the couple, attempting to murder their two children, and causing damage to their vehicle. The indictment detailed that the attack took place on December 17, 2025, with the family inside their car, resulting in the deaths of the couple and injury to one child.
