Seoul: South Korea’s exports surged 30% year-on-year in February, reaching a record high for the month, driven by strong demand for semiconductors, according to government data released Sunday.

According to Yemen News Agency, exports totaled $67.45 billion last month, up 29% from $54.2 billion in February of last year, according to data from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.

Semiconductors led the export growth, with exports jumping 160.8% to $25.16 billion, a record high and surpassing the previous record of $20.8 billion set in December of last year.

Conversely, exports of automobiles and auto parts fell by 20.8% and 22.4% to $4.81 billion and $1.45 billion, respectively. This decline may be attributed to reduced production due to the fewer working days in February, which coincided with the Lunar New Year holiday.

Imports also increased by 7.5% year-on-year to reach $51.94 billion last month, resulting in a trade surplus of $15.51 billion.
