Sana’a: A national symposium on consumer rights and protection against fraud and imitation was held in Sana’a on Tuesday, organized by the National Organization for Quality Control and Consumer Rights.
According to Yemen News Agency, the symposium aimed to introduce the most prominent legislation, laws, and procedures to address the phenomenon of commercial fraud. It sought to establish an effective partnership between government agencies and civil society organizations, activate ways to confront the phenomenon of commercial fraud, and reduce its effects. Additionally, the event focused on exchanging expertise and experiences between agencies and institutions concerned with combating various commercial fraud activities.
The symposium emphasized the need to integrate efforts between all government agencies and the private sector to protect the health and safety of consumers. Speeches at the event highlighted the importance of implementing campaigns to raise awareness of consumer rights and reduce manipulation and commercial fraud.
The speeches reviewed the objectives of the symposium and its role in promoting awareness of consumer rights and developing the necessary policies to protect them. They underlined the importance of cooperation among all partners from the government, private sector, and civil society to achieve the goals of consumer protection and ensure access to safe and high-quality products.
The recommendations of the symposium emphasized the need to strengthen the role of the media in implementing educational programs and informing consumers of their rights. They called for the activation and modernization of laws related to the prevention of commercial fraud and imitation, and the establishment of a special prosecution for urgent consumer cases.
Furthermore, the recommendations stressed the importance of supporting the Yemeni Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority, enabling it to have an effective presence with its cadres and devices as prior protection at the ports of entry.
