Taiz Governor Launches Initiative to Open Sanitation Routes Amid Environmental Concerns

Taiz:The Governor of Taiz, Ahmed Al-Masawa, has announced a humanitarian initiative aimed at opening routes for sanitation trucks to address the pressing environmental challenges facing the city. The initiative seeks to protect Taiz from potential environmental disasters caused by waste accumulation.

According to Yemen News Agency, Governor Al-Masawa highlighted the deteriorating environmental conditions characterized by waste accumulation on public streets and in floodwater channels. He expressed concern over individuals using Taiz University's grounds as a dumping site, which threatens to cause environmental and health disasters and endangers the future of education in the area.

The Governor stated that the initiative comes in response to appeals from Taiz University's leadership and other prominent community figures. The Local Council in Taiz Governorate, represented by Al-Masawa, has announced unilateral actions to open specific routes for the entry and exit of garbage trucks and waste-transport vehicles to the main landfill at Shar'ab junction. This initiative also aims to facilitate the movement of citizens and essential goods.

Al-Masawa called on local proxies of Saudi aggression to open several routes, including Madinat al-Nur - al-Khamsin - al-Sitteen - Shar'ab Junction, Hawd al-Ashraf - al-Kamb - al-Qasr - al-Hawban - al-Sitteen - Shar'ab Junction, and Usayfira - al-Sitteen - Shar'ab Junction. He emphasized the initiative's foundation in humanitarian, developmental, and moral responsibility, urging cooperation from all parties.

The Governor also directed the General Administration of the Sanitation and Improvement Fund to prepare the Shar'ab junction landfill to receive waste from the city, framing this as a public service and duty to residents. He praised the cooperation and support from the military authorities of the Fourth Military Region, the security apparatus in the governorate, and the Ministry of Interior leadership in Sana'a in implementing the initiative.

Al-Masawa noted openness to private sector involvement if some in the city center prefer initiatives channeled through commercial firms. He reiterated that the objective is to alleviate the suffering of Taiz's residents and stressed the collective responsibility of protecting the city from environmental disasters.
