Taiz Human Rights Authority Condemns Saudi Airstrikes on Civilians

Taiz:The National Human Rights Authority's branch in Taiz Governorate has issued a strong condemnation of the Saudi-led airstrikes targeting civilian areas and objects in several districts of the governorate.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Authority detailed that the Saudi aggression aircraft carried out three airstrikes. The first strike hit the communications network in Al-Karif Al-Majasha' area of Maqbanah District, resulting in the death of a child and injuries to four citizens, including a woman. The second strike targeted the central reformatory in Al-Mokha District, leading to serious injuries of two inmates.

The third airstrike, as noted in the statement, struck a house in the Al-Masahin area of Al-Shamaytein District, resulting in the tragic martyrdom of an entire family of eight, mostly women and children.

Further details from the Authority highlight that artillery shelling impacted populated areas in Hayfan District, where a shell struck a house in the Al-Amror isolated area, killing a girl and seriously injuring her mother and sister. Another shell in Wadi Saqam resulted in the martyrdom of a citizen and injuries to his son, while a woman was injured from shelling in the Al-Abous area.

The Authority's branch denounced these Saudi attacks as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, which protect civilians and civilian objects from being targeted. They hold the Saudi forces legally and criminally responsible for these violations and criticize the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council for their inaction.

The Authority calls on international and UN human rights organizations to document these Saudi crimes and pursue perpetrators for war crimes, emphasizing the urgent need for protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
