Taiz Network Condemns Saudi Airstrike on Al-Wazi’iyah Market

Taiz:The Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms (TNRF) has strongly condemned ongoing crimes and violations against civilians in Yemen, particularly in Taiz Governorate, where systematic abuse campaigns are prevalent.

According to Yemen News Agency, the TNRF denounced a recent airstrike by Saudi aircraft targeting a bustling market in the Al-Wazi'iyah District. The attack occurred during peak hours and resulted in the deaths and injuries of 35 civilians, including shoppers and vendors.

The Network highlighted that such attacks on crowded civilian areas violate international laws, including the principles of distinction and proportionality. They described the airstrike as a breach of the rules of military engagement under international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, thereby categorizing it as a war crime.

The TNRF emphasized that the frequent targeting of women and children in these attacks constitutes crimes against humanity. They reported that the number of casualties has reached nearly a thousand, indicating large-scale hostile actions aimed at terrorizing the population.

Furthermore, the Network held Saudi forces criminally and morally accountable for the massacre and ongoing violence in Taiz and other Yemeni regions. They warned that international inaction and silence on these issues could perpetuate impunity for the perpetrators.

The TNRF called on the United Nations, the Security Council, and human rights organizations to condemn the killings, provide immediate medical support, and supply urgent aid to hospitals in the affected areas to help the wounded.
