Dhamar: The Tax and Customs Authority announced financial rewards for reporting smuggled cigarettes, in line with directives to strengthen mechanisms for combating cigarette smuggling.
According to Yemen News Agency, informants will receive rewards amounting to 25 percent of the value of the seized cigarettes and the vehicle used for transportation.
The authority said a 10 percent reward will be granted to anyone providing information leading to the seizure, whether a public employee, cigarette importer worker, transporter, or ordinary citizen.
A 15 percent reward will be allocated to the seizing entity that delivers the confiscated cigarettes to the relevant customs center, whether governmental, non-governmental, a chamber of commerce, or the person who submitted the report.
The authority noted that rewards will not be less than 50,000 riyals for each seized carton of cigarettes and no less than 5 million riyals for every 100 seized cartons.
The Tax and Customs Authority urged public cooperation in combating cigarette smuggling, warning retail shops against selling cigarettes without official banderole stamps on packs or cartons, as violators will face legal action and confiscation of the smuggled quantities.
