Traffic Police Crack Down on Unauthorized Fee Collection in Sana’a

General

Sana'a: Director of Traffic Police Major General Dr. Bakil al-Barashi issued urgent directives to the Capital Sana'a Traffic Department to reorganize internal transport bus lines and completely prohibit unauthorized fee collection.

According to Yemen News Agency, the instructions were prompted by a comprehensive field assessment that confirmed repeated complaints about illegal payments collected by self-appointed line representatives. These representatives, who do not comply with the new directives, are to be immediately removed from their positions, with field traffic teams supervising the reorganization of lines and enforcing the ban on unauthorized collections.

Bus drivers have been urged not to pay any fees for line assignments and are encouraged to report any violations. The traffic police emphasized that organizing routes falls under their official duties and should not involve any additional charges.

Field teams are tasked with monitoring the implementation of these directives, submitting regular reports, and taking legal action against violators. This initiative aims to ensure public order and eliminate extortion within the transport system.
