Sana’a: Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi on Saturday participated in the launch of the Medicine and Pharmacy Law 1446 AH, a significant legislative achievement aimed at regulating the pharmaceutical sector and ensuring public health.
According to Yemen News Agency, the law was enacted by the Ministry of Health and Environment and the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, being hailed as a “pharmaceutical safety valve.” Prime Minister al-Rahawi emphasized the law’s role in legalizing and regulating the pharmaceutical industry, controlling the dispensing of medicines, and protecting society from improper drug use. He highlighted the necessity for strict enforcement and continuous monitoring to guarantee its effectiveness.
“This law is a great achievement for the benefit of society and its health,” stated al-Rahawi. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding local pharmaceutical production to reduce reliance on imports.
Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Ali Shiban described the law as the first comprehensive legislation of its kind in Yemen. He noted its focus on transitioning from a purely commercial approach to medicine to a service-oriented one, emphasizing rational drug use, governance, and controlled sales.
