Aden:The Ministry of Transport and Public Works has condemned the use of Aden International Airport by Saudi forces to transport military equipment, accusing them of exploiting the civilian facility to further military operations against the Yemeni people.
According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry outlined that a military aircraft belonging to the Saudi forces recently landed at the airport, loaded with weapons and equipment. This act is seen as a severe misuse of civilian infrastructure, converting it into a military base and violating international laws and agreements.
The ministry emphasized that such actions breach the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which mandates the protection of civilian airports to ensure they continue serving humanitarian purposes. Aden International Airport, as a civilian entity, is meant to support travelers and patients, not serve as a conduit for military logistics.
Furthermore, the ministry highlighted the risks posed to civil aviation safety, travelers, and airport personnel due to the militarization of the airport. They urged the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and ICAO to take responsibility and denounce the actions of the Saudi forces.
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works also held the Saudi forces liable for any potential damage to the airport's facilities and the safety of civilians and staff, stressing their commitment to documenting all violations impacting civil aviation and transport infrastructure.
