Sana'a: The General Authority for Zakat has launched the tenth phase of its in-kind Zakat project for cash crops, under the slogan "Food and Self-Sufficiency," distributing 26,000 food baskets to the country's most vulnerable families.
According to Yemen News Agency, the General Authority for Zakat began distributing 26,000 food baskets containing items such as honey, almonds, raisins, coffee, sesame oil, dates, and peanuts to poor families, including those with special needs, thalassemia patients, war wounded, and burn victims. The launch event was attended by Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Ali Sheban and Acting Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Ammar al-Karim.
Al-Karim commended the efforts of the Zakat Authority in collecting and distributing zakat to deserving recipients. He emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency and how the zakat program reflects the community's ability to support those in need. He also called on farmers to continue paying their zakat on time to ensure it reaches local communities.
Sheikh Shamshan Abu Nashat, Head of the Zakat Authority, confirmed that the project is in collaboration with farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture, and other relevant officials. He highlighted the role of the initiative in fostering solidarity and compassion, ensuring that in-kind zakat from various crops is distributed promptly to the most deserving families.
Farmers praised the Zakat Authority's efforts in ensuring that zakat reaches those who need it most, noting that the distribution of items like almonds, honey, raisins, and coffee directly benefits the poor and marginalized. They expressed their commitment to giving zakat voluntarily, recognizing the positive impact the program has had on their communities.
