Sana’a: Two thousand eight hundred and ninety-five graduates of medical specialties, holding bachelor’s and diploma degrees, took the third competency exam of 2025 in Sana’a today. The exam was organized by the Supreme Medical Council in coordination with Sana’a University.
According to Yemen News Agency, during his inspection of the exams, the Minister of Health and Environment, Dr. Ali Shaiban, emphasized the importance of the exam in measuring the competence of medical and health personnel and ensuring their readiness for fieldwork, which contributes to reducing medical errors and improving the quality of health services provided to the community. He stated that the exam distinguishes who qualifies as a doctor, stressing that practicing medicine without a license from the Medical Council is not permissible as it is a regulated profession.
Dr. Shaiban further explained that obtaining a license is a mark of success, demonstrating the ability of medical professionals to practice with competence and efficiency, thus earning the trust of the community. The unique nature of the medical profession, he noted, lies in its direct connection to human life.
Meanwhile, the head of the Medical Council, Dr. Abdulkarim Shaiban, outlined that the number of applicants holding bachelor’s degrees reached 1,045, with distributions across various specialties such as Medical Laboratories, Dentistry, Nursing, Medicine, and others. For diploma holders, the number reached 1,850, with Medical Assistant, Midwifery, Nursing, and Pharmacy among the key areas.
The exam was attended by notable figures including Dr. Abdulhamid Al-Dhaifani, a member of the Medical Council, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Hammadi, the Council’s Secretary-General, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Sana’a University. On the same day, a free eye care campaign was launched at Awmrah Rural Hospital in partnership with the Noor Al-Ayoun Center for Ophthalmology, providing free examinations for over 500 patients.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Tuhaif, the hospital’s director, informed that the campaign also offers surgical procedures at a discounted rate and provides eyeglasses at a reduced price. The campaign includes surgeries such as cataract removal and other procedures, aiming to alleviate the suffering of impoverished patients and enhance their access to necessary healthcare services.
