Sana'a:The Ain Al-Insaniya Center for Rights and Development has condemned a recent Saudi attack on the Ras Issa oil port in Hodeida Governorate, which resulted in the deaths of two citizens and injuries to two others. This incident coincided with an attack on oil facilities in the Al-Sobaha area, located west of the capital, Sana'a.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Center described the aggression as a dangerous escalation that targets vital economic and service facilities, posing a significant threat to the already dire humanitarian and living conditions of Yemeni citizens.
The Center emphasized that these attacks cannot be seen merely as fleeting military operations due to the essential role these facilities play in providing fuel, supporting transportation and service utilities, sustaining economic activities, and meeting the daily needs of millions of Yemenis already affected by war and a blockade.
The statement from the Center highlighted the serious concerns regarding the direct impact on fuel supplies, transportation, and the prices of goods and services. It also pointed out the potential environmental and health risks and the additional burdens these attacks impose on citizens, particularly the most vulnerable groups. The Saudi regime was held responsible for the consequences of these attacks, which the Center argued could constitute war crimes under international humanitarian law if the legal criteria are met.
The statement stressed the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law, noting that attacks must undergo rigorous legal assessment to minimize civilian harm. It warned of the broader risks to essential sectors like food, medicine, and public health, which could exacerbate the suffering of Yemeni citizens.
Finally, the Center affirmed that the essentials of daily life and vital infrastructure should not be targets of military conflict, as attacks on energy sources and vital supplies have widespread effects on citizens' lives and livelihood security.
