Sana'a:The Ain Al-Insaniya Center for Rights and Development has condemned the recent military escalation in Sana'a, which involved the targeting of four buildings at Sana'a International Airport, along with various factories and economic and civilian facilities.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Center highlighted the severe implications of these attacks, which extend beyond the immediate damage to infrastructure. The attacks threaten the safety of workers and civilians, disrupt income sources for numerous families, harm the local economy, and hinder productive activities essential for citizens' survival amid the country's dire humanitarian conditions.
The Center emphasized that under international humanitarian law, civilian economic facilities are protected and should not be targeted unless classified as military objectives, ensuring adherence to the principles of distinction and proportionality. It stated that economic damage alone does not legally justify such attacks.
Concerns were raised about the targeting of Sana'a International Airport, which led to casualties and facility damage, stressing the importance of civilian protection. The destruction of factories and disruption of production further strain citizens' livelihoods, threatening employment and production opportunities and exacerbating the conflict's humanitarian and economic impacts.
The statement underscored the serious violation of international humanitarian law represented by the continued targeting of civilian facilities, calling for investigation and accountability. It reiterated the need to respect civilian lives and property, protect civilian objects, and cease practices endangering the population and their livelihoods.
