Airstrikes and Shelling Mark October 31st in Yemen’s Recent History

Sana'a:A series of airstrikes and shelling have marked October 31st over recent years, leading to civilian casualties and significant infrastructural damage across various governorates in Yemen. The attacks, attributed to US-Saudi-Emirati aggression, have targeted multiple areas including Sana’a, Taiz, Ibb, and other regions, resulting in the loss of lives and extensive property damage.

According to Yemen News Agency, on October 31, 2015, airstrikes in the Nihm and Taiz areas caused substantial damage to agricultural lands and public infrastructure. The following year saw further aggression with 11 airstrikes targeting residential and strategic locations in Taiz and other governorates, leading to widespread destruction.

The pattern continued in subsequent years, with 2017 witnessing the deaths of eight civilians and injuries to 25 others in Bilad Al-Rus District, Sana'a Governorate. Airstrikes also damaged a mosque and a water project in other areas, exacerbating the humanitarian situation. In 2018, further airstrikes damaged agricultural areas and infrastructure, particularly in Al-Mahwit and Hodeida Governorates.

By 2019, the conflict had intensified, with airstrikes and artillery shelling impacting residential areas and causing civilian injuries in Saada and other border regions. The cycle of violence persisted into 2020 and 2021, with airstrikes targeting various districts in Marib, Al-Jawf, and Hajjah Governorates, and artillery fire causing further devastation in Hodeida and Saada.

October 31, 2022, continued this grim tradition, with reconnaissance aircraft launching airstrikes in Hodeida Governorate, while mercenaries established combat fortifications and engaged in heavy shelling, inflicting damage across multiple areas. The ongoing aggression underscores the enduring humanitarian crisis in Yemen, marked by frequent attacks on civilian infrastructure.
