Al mahwit: The Agriculture Sector in Al Mahwit Governorate, in collaboration with the governorate branch of the Agricultural Cooperative Union, has initiated urgent field interventions to address the outbreak of lumpy skin disease affecting cattle in the Milhan District. These measures aim to curb livestock deaths and protect animal wealth, a vital income source for rural families in the area.
According to Yemen News Agency, during a recent meeting of the governorate's Animal Health and Epidemiological Surveillance Department, key officials, including Deputy Agriculture Sector Officials Dr. Ahmed Al-Hasabi and Dr. Mohammed Al-Baqa'a, gathered to discuss the epidemiological situation. They focused on rapid response strategies to contain the disease and prevent its spread across affected regions. The meeting resulted in the approval of distributing veterinary medicines provided by the Agriculture Sector to Ali Al-Milhani, head of the Livestock Unit at the Milhan Veterinary Association, to treat affected animals and lessen the disease's impact.
Further discussions explored the potential provision of supplementary medicines, such as fever reducers and vitamins, in collaboration with private veterinary clinic owners. Additionally, the meeting sanctioned the supply of veterinary medicines and supplies to agricultural associations via guarantees from the union branch and the governorate financing unit.
Ibrahim Al-Ghuwaydi, head of the Agricultural Cooperative Union branch in the governorate, emphasized that these interventions are part of an urgent plan to protect livestock and decrease mortality rates. He urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources to expedite the supply of vaccines and enhance preventive measures to contain the disease's spread. Al-Ghuwaydi also called on authorities, community members, and livestock breeders to intensify biosecurity and veterinary guidance efforts by isolating infected animals and ensuring their proper care and nutrition.
Faris Al-Wali, Secretary-General of the union branch, highlighted the necessity of integrating official and community efforts to combat the disease. He underscored the importance of media outlets in raising public awareness about preventive and control measures.
