Hodeida: Al-Thawra General Hospital Authority in Hodeida governorate honored on Saturday the cardiovascular surgery team in recognition of their vital role in the success of the hospital's first-ever open-heart surgery - a landmark medical achievement in the governorate's history.

According to Yemen News Agency, the ceremony honored a team of 18 specialists led by Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon Dr. Nabil al-Madwahi, including consultants, anesthesiologists, respiratory care experts, perfusionists, and nursing staff who performed several complex surgeries since the service's inauguration.

Authority Chairman Dr. Khaled Suhail hailed the team's outstanding performance and said the operation marked a turning point toward establishing full cardiac surgery services at the hospital. Dr. Suhail added that the Authority had worked for months to launch the open-heart surgery service as part of its plan to expand specialized healthcare and provide quality medical care to cardiac patients in Hodeida and neighboring governorates.

He noted that the Authority continues implementing an ambitious program to enhance cardiac surgery capabilities in line with modern standards, helping reduce patient referrals outside the governorate. For his part, Dr. al-Madwahi thanked the Authority's leadership for its support, affirming that this achievement reflects the determination and competence of Yemeni medical professionals despite challenging circumstances.

He stressed that the success represents a major step toward localizing cardiac surgery in Yemen and paves the way for further specialized medical advancements.
