China’s Video Game Industry Set for $50 Billion Revenue Milestone by 2025

China: The 2025 annual report on China's video game industry indicates that the domestic gaming market has reached record highs in terms of sales revenue and user base this year, alongside strong performance in overseas markets. According to Yemen News Agency, the report was released during the China Gaming Industry Annual Conference held in Shanghai, eastern China. It stated that domestic gaming market revenue reached 350.79 billion yuan ($49.8 billion) in 2025, marking a 7.68% year-on-year increase. The user base expanded to 683 million, a 1.35% year-on-year rise, with both indicators reaching unprecedented levels. The report highlights that domestically developed games achieved sales of 291.1 billion yuan in the Chinese market, showing a year-on-year increase of 11.64%. Mobile games continued their market dominance, generating 257.08 billion yuan in sales, a 7.92% increase, and accounting for 73.29% of total market revenue. Zhang Yijun, First Vice President of the China Audio-Visual and Digital Publishi ng Association, emphasized the industry's growth, stating that by 2025, China's gaming industry would experience robust growth and innovation, shifting from quantitative expansion to quality improvement. Meanwhile, Chinese games achieved outstanding results overseas, with sales reaching $20.46 billion, a 10.23% increase, surpassing the 100 billion yuan mark for the sixth consecutive year. The United States, Japan, and South Korea remain key markets, along with continued expansion into emerging markets.
