Closure of Six Illegal Hand-Dug Wells in Anas District

Dhamar: The Dhamar branch of the Public Authority for Water Resources, in coordination with security agencies, has executed a campaign to close and backfill six random hand-dug wells that were illegally excavated in the Bab al-Falak area of Anas District.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Director of the Authority’s branch in the governorate, Eng. Haitham Alwan, stated that the campaign is part of ongoing efforts to protect water resources and curb random drilling. This practice poses a direct threat to groundwater reserves and leads to unlawful depletion of water. Alwan highlighted that the wells were dug in contravention of water laws and relevant regulations, and affirmed that the Authority will persist in its monitoring activities and take legal measures against violators.

Alwan further emphasized the Authority’s commitment to continue field campaigns across various areas and districts of the governorate to preserve water resources and ensure their sustainability. He urged citizens to adhere to legal procedures regulating well drilling. The campaign, he noted, was conducted in accordance with legal procedures following comprehensive field surveys and monitoring work. The branch is implementing a plan aimed at raising community awareness of the importance of adhering to well-drilling regulations to safeguard water security.
