Sana'a:The Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Water's Steering Committee for Externally Funded Projects convened on Sunday to deliberate on utilizing existing resources from transmission, distribution, and generation units to rehabilitate the damaged 132-kV power lines in Taiz and Yemen's western coastal areas.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting, which was led by Deputy Minister Adel Bader, examined project contracts, financial guarantees, and pending court cases related to guarantee confiscation. The committee also discussed strategies to tackle stalled projects.
Participants at the meeting explored the integration of the electricity sector project with the Transmission, Distribution and Control Projects Unit. They also focused on measures to protect equipment and materials at project sites.
Deputy Minister Bader attributed the stalled projects to the suspension of external funding, which he said was due to the Saudi-American aggression and blockade. He emphasized the importance of using available equipment to rehabilitate the national electricity grid, resume operations, and restore services to citizens.
Bader urged the ministry's legal affairs department to actively pursue pending court cases to safeguard public funds and reclaim the ministry's rights. The meeting concluded with a decision to forward the committee's proposals to the Cabinet for further action.
