Emergency Committee in Sana’a Discusses Readiness for Rainy Season

Sana'a: The Emergency Committee in Sana'a Governorate convened today under the leadership of Deputy Governor for Services Sector and Deputy Head of the Committee, Fares Al-Kahali, to deliberate on enhancing preparedness to tackle emergencies during the rainy season in the governorate center and districts.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting included participation from key officials such as the Directors of Public Works, Engineer Mohammed Ash'iya; Cleaning Fund, Engineer Sami Al-Turabi; Financial Affairs at the Governorate's Diwan, Mohammed Al-Umaisi; Human Resources, Abdulkarim Al-Salami; and others. They reviewed the readiness to mitigate potential flood damage and proactive measures to prevent loss of life and property during the current rainy season.

Discussions focused on the roles of relevant offices in managing emergencies stemming from flood flows, lightning strikes, and other situations during and after rainfall. The committee emphasized inspecting and maintaining culverts and drainage channels, removing debris causing blockages, and studying rockfall causes to prevent damage to roads and properties.

The attendees highlighted the necessity of equipping emergency committees with the required tools and machinery for efficient task execution. They stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among different entities to ensure a swift response to any emergencies.

The committee sanctioned various measures to bolster the emergency sector and elevate readiness across the governorate's districts. These steps aim to effectively manage any developments during the upcoming period.

Deputy Governor Al-Kahali reiterated the commitment to using all available resources to address flood-related damages. He emphasized implementing emergency procedures to minimize losses and damages and called for identifying personnel for targeted locations and reinforcing districts with emergency teams, particularly those prone to landslides during rainfalls. Coordination among service offices, relevant authorities, and emergency teams was underscored to ensure effective rainwater drainage and flood damage mitigation.
