Hajjah: Hajjah governor Hilal Al-Sufi recently evaluated the water barrier needs in Washhah district. During his visit, accompanied by Province Undersecretary Ibrahim Amer, Al-Sufi assessed the potential for constructing lined and earthen water barriers in various areas such as Bin Rashid in Bani Rizq, Wadi Muzat in Al-Arqah of Bani Sa'd, Al-Hana Reservoir in Bani Hani, and several other locations. These initiatives are in collaboration with the local community, aiming to manage water resources efficiently.
According to Yemen News Agency, the governor and his team engaged with local sheikhs, community leaders, and residents to discuss proposed sites for the construction of water barriers and dams. The primary objectives of these projects include replenishing groundwater, irrigating agricultural land, and serving the district's families. Governor Al-Sufi has tasked an engineering team with conducting field visits and preparing detailed technical studies to assess the feasibility and benefits of these water harvesting initiatives.
The delegation also explored the Al-Ras'ah water project and considered advancing the Al-Marwah water project to its second phase, along with the Al-Namash well water project. This includes preparing a study for the well's rehabilitation and deepening. Additionally, Al-Sufi and Amer reviewed the equipment needs in Al-Qa'rah for drilling water wells. The governor instructed that air compressors be provided by the Central Emergency Development Intervention Unit on a loan basis to facilitate well drilling and address the drinking water needs of residents.
Governor Al-Sufi emphasized Washhah District's agricultural potential and stated that constructing water barriers is a priority for enhancing water and food security. He highlighted the importance of these projects as a step toward developing water resources and replenishing groundwater. He affirmed the commitment to supporting water-harvesting projects, viewing them as essential for agricultural development and achieving self-sufficiency. The governorate's local authority is dedicated to collaborating with communities and supporting organizations to implement these initiatives.
