Hodeidah: The Governor of Hodeidah, Abdullah Atifi, today launched the project for the in-kind distribution of zakat from the local date crop and the project for distributing Ramadan iftar meals. These initiatives are implemented by the office of the General Zakat Authority in the governorate as part of the Ramadan charity projects for the year 1447 AH.
According to Yemen News Agency, the in-kind zakat distribution project includes distributing 3,092 cartons of dates, valued at 20 million riyals, to poor and needy families in various districts. Additionally, the Iftar for the Fasting project aims to distribute 30,000 meals throughout the month of Ramadan in Hodeidah city, at a rate of 1,000 meals per day, with a total cost of 50 million riyals.
During the launch, Governor Atifi emphasized that these projects reflect the faith identity and collective values of Yemeni society, which continue to persevere despite challenging circumstances due to aggression and siege. He highlighted the importance of supporting the poor and needy as a priority for the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council.
Governor Atifi noted that converting the in-kind zakat from local dates to beneficiaries is a crucial step in supporting the national product and connecting the land with its people. He commended the General Zakat Authority for its role in ensuring the rightful distribution of resources with transparency.
The governor also urged businessmen and philanthropists to support the Zakat Authority's efforts by paying their zakat, thus expanding the circle of beneficiaries and reinforcing societal resilience.
Deputy Governor for Services Affairs, Mohammed Haleesi, remarked that these projects are a practical response to directives from Leader Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, emphasizing kindness and support for the needy. He highlighted the Iftar for the Fasting project as a vital contribution to aiding the city's poorest families.
The Director of the General Zakat Authority office in Hodeidah, Mohammed Hazza', explained the projects as part of an integrated plan for Ramadan charity initiatives, aiming to reach the maximum number of needy individuals in the governorate. The cost of these projects exceeds 70 million riyals, with funds returned to beneficiaries from the governorate's residents.
Hazza' assured that the Authority's office will continue charitable and development projects throughout the year, appreciating the local authority's cooperation in facilitating these efforts to serve the community and fulfill the third pillar of Islam.
