Hodeidah Governor Launches Second Phase to Increase Wheat Flour Extraction Rate

Hodeidah:The Governor of Hodeidah, Abdullah Atifi, along with Saleh Ateefah, the director of the Economy, Industry and Investment Office, has initiated the second phase of a plan to increase the wheat flour extraction rate from 80 to 86 percent in the governorate’s mills and grain silos.

According to Yemen News Agency, Governor Atifi and the Economy Office director reviewed the ongoing work progress in the mills and grain silos, focusing on the mechanisms used for grinding flour under the new rate and the readiness of production lines for this phase of implementation.

During their visit, they were briefed on the wheat processing and flour extraction stages, the technical procedures in grinding operations, and the mechanisms to control production quality, ensuring these align with specifications and improve wheat grain utilization in flour production.

Governor Atifi highlighted that this phase aims to develop the flour production system and improve wheat use efficiency, a key commodity for food security. He emphasized compliance with technical procedures to achieve the economic, health, and nutritional goals of the decision.

He also stressed the importance of mills updating their technology in line with the decision and improving coordination between relevant authorities and industrial facility managements to ensure stable production and adherence to specified flour specifications.

The governor commended the cooperation between authorities and the milling sector in implementing the new phase, underscoring the necessity of maintaining technical standards during production to preserve flour quality, enhance wheat benefits, and reduce raw material waste and associated costs.

Ateif affirmed the local authority's commitment to support the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Investment's efforts and enhance coordination with the private sector to implement the decision, aiming to rationalize wheat consumption and improve bread consumption patterns.

Saleh Ateefah explained that increasing the extraction rate allows for better utilization of additional wheat grain components during grinding, enhancing flour's nutritional value and the efficiency of available quantities of this essential material. He stated that the office will enhance oversight of mills in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the new extraction rate is implemented and that production meets approved specifications.

Ateefah confirmed ongoing coordination with mill managements and industrial sectors to address implementation requirements, ensuring flour provision according to specified standards and meeting local market needs.
