Hodeidah: The second phase of contract farming in the poultry sector was launched on Wednesday in Hodeidah, with the marketing of 5,400 tons of locally produced frozen chicken. The initiative is part of efforts to replace imported chicken with domestic products.
According to Yemen News Agency, Engineer Hilal Al-Jashari, Poultry and Egg Value Chain Officer, explained during the launch that locally produced quantities scheduled for marketing will reach 60 tons per day over the remaining three months of 2025, totaling 5,400 tons. This step is the result of cooperation between cooperative associations representing small-scale poultry farmers, slaughterhouses, and poultry production and marketing companies, under the supervision and coordination of the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water Resources, Economy, Industry, and Investment. The goal is to ensure the availability of local products that meet market needs.
Al-Jashari praised the role and support of the late Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Dr. Radwan Al-Rubai, highlighting that the first phase was implemented under his direct supervision as part of the leadership and government's vision to reduce imports and promote self-sufficiency.
For his part, Secretary-General of Beit Al-Faqih Cooperative Association, Jib Majhasi, described the launch of the second phase as a shift in the work of cooperative associations, especially following the success of the first phase. He stressed that the project would enhance farmers' ability to produce at higher quality levels.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Beit Al-Faqih Association, Abdu Mazjaji, affirmed the association's readiness to supply the contracted quantities according to agreed standards. He pointed out the project's importance in supporting small producers, creating new job opportunities, and expanding investment in the poultry sector. He also commended the efforts of relevant authorities in sponsoring such projects, providing a supportive environment for the growth of local production, and expanding its marketing capabilities.
