Ibb: The Ibb branch of the General Authority for Rural Water Projects on Sunday handed over the Khabbat-Al-Ahtoub water project in the Hazm Al-Udayn district to a community committee and the Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Society after completing its technical and operational works.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project, which cost 48 million riyals, was funded by the Central Emergency Development Interventions Unit of the Ministry of Local and Rural Development. It aims to benefit 5,000 people by strengthening the rural water infrastructure in the region.
The project is notable for its inclusion of two integrated solar power systems, which serve its first and second phases. This innovation ensures sustainable operation while reducing the reliance on conventional energy sources, marking a significant step towards sustainable resource use.
Branch Director Engineer Sadiq Qamaz highlighted that the project will significantly improve water services in the Hazm Al-Udayn district. The reliance on solar energy reflects a strategic shift towards lower operating costs and sustainable resource utilization. He emphasized the Authority's commitment to implementing projects that adhere to technical standards and address the needs of local communities.
Engineer Qamaz further explained that handing over the project to the community committee, under the supervision of the Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Society, is a move to strengthen community participation in managing and operating water projects. This approach is intended to ensure the preservation and continuity of vital water services.
