Intisaf Organization Condemns Use of Cluster Bombs in Yemen

Accra:The Intisaf Organization for Women and Children's Rights has condemned the use of cluster bombs by Saudi forces in airstrikes targeting civilian homes in the Dhamar Governorate. These attacks resulted in the deaths of three children and injuries to seven civilians, including women, in the villages of Al-Ar and Barza in the Dhooran Aness District.

According to Yemen News Agency, the organization stated that the deployment of cluster munitions in populated areas poses an immediate danger to civilians and leaves unexploded ordnances that continue to threaten residents, particularly children, long after the initial attacks. The organization emphasized that targeting civilians and their homes is a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

The statement further highlighted Saudi artillery shelling in Sa'ada Governorate's border district of Razih, which injured three African migrants in the Baqim and Munabbih districts, as well as the serious injury of a civilian due to shelling near a market in the Shada District.

In Hodeidah, two airstrikes were reported in the Al-Tuhayta area of Al-Durayhimi District. Additionally, in Taiz, a Saudi airstrike struck a health center in the Al-Mashawalah area of Al-Wazi'iyah District, resulting in the death of one civilian and the injury of a woman.

The organization also noted that attacks on medical facilities jeopardize civilians' access to healthcare and contravene the protections granted to medical units and personnel under international humanitarian law. They warned that the attacks across Dhamar, Sa'ada, Hodeidah, and Taiz reflect a dangerous pattern that endangers civilian lives and that the lack of investigations and accountability fosters further violations and perpetuates impunity.
