Al-jawf: The local authority in Al-Jawf Governorate, in partnership with the Ministries of Health and Environment, and Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, launched today the National Community Environmental Initiative for Combating Disease Vectors.
According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Agricultural Cooperative Union, the Binyan Development Foundation, multi-purpose cooperative associations, and includes an accompanying workshop. The primary aim is to unify official and community efforts to prevent diseases and reduce their spread, particularly focusing on combating the dengue fever epidemic. This will be achieved through sustainable environmental and community activities across various districts of the governorate.
During the launch, Dr. Abdulwahab Saad, Deputy Minister of Health for the Health Management and Quality Control Sector, elaborated on the significance of the awareness workshop. He emphasized the distribution of tasks among relevant authorities, ensuring that each party understands the nature of its responsibilities in confronting dengue fever. Dr. Saad highlighted that while the Ministry of Health is responsible for providing treatments and medicines, the crucial task of combating mosquito breeding sites requires comprehensive coordination and cooperation from all sectors.
Ahmed Al-Haij, Deputy Minister of Local and Rural Administration and Development for the Development Sector, expressed the vital need for integrating official and community efforts against disease vectors, including dengue fever. He stressed enhancing awareness among families and communities about the dangers and locations of disease vectors. Al-Haij called for collective cooperation through various platforms, such as meetings, sessions, and awareness campaigns, to reach all districts, underscoring the shared responsibility in preserving lives.
Dr. Abdulaziz Omair, Director of the Health Office in the governorate, commended the leadership of the Ministries of Health and Environment and the local authority for their roles in launching the initiative. He expressed hope for community cooperation with health and community education teams to mitigate the disease's threat, emphasizing preventive measures to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
Extensive discussions during the workshop reaffirmed the importance of practical steps to be undertaken by relevant authorities and sectors in combating disease vectors. An awareness flash on the causes and prevention methods, produced by the Binyan Development Foundation and the Ministry of Health, was also presented to the attendees.
