Sana'a:The General Authority for Maritime Affairs has condemned the ongoing targeting of Mayun Island, located in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, by Saudi forces. The Authority specifically highlighted recent strikes against the island's maritime beacons and navigational facilities, with the latest attack occurring on Wednesday.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Authority described these actions by the Saudi forces as a grave violation that threatens the safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, one of the world's most critical waterways.
The Authority stated that these assaults on Mayun Island and its navigational infrastructure are acts of terrorism aimed at undermining maritime safety and security in the region. It argued that such actions blatantly violate international laws, norms, and humanitarian law.
Furthermore, the Authority emphasized the importance of the Bab al-Mandab Strait as a vital artery for international navigation and trade. It warned that continued targeting of Mayun Island's navigational aids would exacerbate risks and jeopardize maritime traffic safety through this crucial corridor.
The Maritime Affairs Authority held the Saudi regime legally and criminally responsible for the repercussions of these hostile acts, which it says threaten the safety of international navigation. It called on the international community, the United Nations, and relevant organizations, including the International Maritime Organization, to condemn these attacks and take a firm stance against them, citing the severe threats they pose to regional security.
