Sana'a: Organizers of the upcoming Yemeni Medicinal Honey Conference met on Saturday with officials from the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies to review final preparations for the event and discuss mechanisms for supporting the development of the medicinal honey sector and promoting local production.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting brought together the Chairman of the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, Dr. Amin Qubas, and the Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Yemeni Medicinal Honey Conference, Dr. Ghassan Al-Madani. Discussions focused on final arrangements for the conference, which aims to strengthen cooperation between researchers, producers, regulators, and industry stakeholders while promoting the development of locally sourced medicinal honey products.
During the meeting, Al-Madani highlighted the conference's role in linking scientific research with practical applications, training programs, and specialized exhibitions. He praised the cooperation provided by the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies and its support for the conference preparations. Qubas affirmed the Authority's readiness to provide the necessary support to ensure the conference's success and stressed the importance of coordination between public and private sector institutions to achieve the conference's objectives and contribute to the development of the sector.
The meeting also included presentations by Chairman of the Scientific Committee Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, Chairman of the Organizing Committee Dr. Mu'in Al-Mutawakkil, and Preparatory Committee member Dr. Muhammad Al-Sharhi. They reviewed the conference's main themes, objectives, and planned activities. Participants announced plans to hold a consultative meeting in the coming days under the theme, 'Towards an Integrated Framework for Roles and Responsibilities in the Medicinal Honey Sector,' aimed at strengthening cooperation among stakeholders.
The discussions emphasized the importance of coordination between pharmaceutical manufacturers and beekeepers' associations to increase local production of raw materials, reduce reliance on imports, and establish clear contractual frameworks governing cooperation within the sector. The meeting concluded with an agreement for the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies to develop a comprehensive mechanism for registering medicinal honey products and establishing standard specifications. A specialized working paper on the subject is expected to be presented during the conference, alongside reviews of support measures available to beekeepers and opportunities to substitute imported natural products with locally produced alternatives.
