Review of Interventions to Mitigate Effects of Rainwater Floods in Sana’a Al-Jadidah District

Sana'a: The Deputy Governor of Sana'a for Services Affairs and Deputy Head of the Emergency Committee in the province, Fares Al-Kahali, inspected today the areas requiring interventions to mitigate the effects of rainwater floods in several neighborhoods of Sana'a Al-Jadidah District.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Deputy Governor, along with the Directors of Financial Affairs at the Governorate Office, Mohammed Al-Umaisi; Works, Engineer Mohammed Ashia; the Cleaning and Improvement Fund, Engineer Sami Al-Turabi; and Operations, Ibrahim Al-Faseeh, reviewed the damage in the alleys of Ghoul Jahalan and Hamas, Al-Shabab neighborhood, and 22 May - Al-Falah neighborhood in San'a Al-Jadidah District, resulting from rainwater floods seeping into citizens' homes, as well as damage to streets.

The Deputy Governor and his accompanying delegation also reviewed the ongoing work and efforts made by the province's emergency teams in draining water in several streets. They stressed the need to maintain the streets and remove waste that causes blockages in flood channels and rainwater drainage systems, and to clean and maintain them throughout the year.

They emphasized the need for continuous field visits and activating the role of all relevant authorities and the local authority in the district in implementing urgent works to reduce flood damage and alleviate citizens' suffering.

Deputy Governor Al-Kahali directed the preparation of a study on the required interventions in the sites most affected by floods, which need elevation of flood flow levels and finding appropriate solutions, and to begin addressing and filling holes that impede traffic on paved and unpaved streets.

He called on citizens to cooperate with emergency teams and facilitate their tasks to ensure damage is removed from them and reduce haphazardness, affirming the commitment to taking emergency measures and treatments to remove and repair flood damage and residues according to available capabilities.

He urged relevant offices to cooperate and double efforts in backfilling works and cleaning flood channels, noting the efforts of the Cleaning Fund, Works, and Operations in this regard.
