Over 15 Trillion Rials in Damages to Yemen’s Electricity and Water Sectors Due to Prolonged Aggression

Sana'a: The Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water held a press conference in Sana'a, marking National Resilience Day, to disclose the extensive damages inflicted on Yemen's electricity and water sectors over 11 years of aggression by American, Zionist, Saudi, and Emirati forces from 2015 to 2026.

According to Yemen News Agency, Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, Adel Bader, reported that the aggression resulted in losses amounting to 15 trillion, 94 billion, 202 million, and 228 thousand Yemeni riyals, equivalent to 28 billion US dollars. The electricity and energy sector alone sustained losses of 14 trillion, 620 billion, 688 million, and 961 thousand riyals, due to the destruction and damage of 5,600 electrical facilities and equipment. Meanwhile, the water and sanitation sector faced losses of 428 billion and 5 million riyals, affecting 12,400 water facilities and equipment.

Bader praised the resilience of the Yemeni people, emphasizing their ability to thwart attempts to make Yemen a subordinate state. He highlighted that Yemen, through its military advancements, has reached significant capabilities, affecting even the Zionist entity in occupied Palestinian territories.

Yemen's Deputy Minister of Information, Dr. Omar Al-Bukhayti, acknowledged the vital role of media in uncovering the extent of Yemen's suffering due to aggression. He commended the Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water for improving performance in these crucial sectors, despite ongoing challenges.

Engineer Ahmed Al-Mutawakkil, Deputy Minister of Electricity, presented comprehensive statistics, noting that direct damage to electricity and energy amounted to 4 trillion, 801 billion, 920 million riyals, while indirect losses reached 9 trillion, 818 billion, 768 million, and 901 thousand riyals. The water sector suffered direct losses of 100 billion and 539 million riyals, with indirect losses totaling 327 billion and 974 million riyals.

The human toll of the aggression includes 134 martyrs, with 86 from the electricity sector and 48 from water and sanitation. Al-Mutawakkil also reported 489 airstrikes targeting these facilities since 2015.

The event was attended by key figures from the General Corporation for Electric Industries, the Water Sector, and other related authorities, alongside local and international media representatives.
