Sana'a: The Prophet's Birthday friendly football tournament for deaf players was concluded in the capital Sana'a. The tournament was organized by the General Federation for Deaf Sports.
According to Yemen News Agency, the five-day tournament, held under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and supported by the Youth and Sports Welfare Fund, featured 44 players representing the Deaf Club in the Capital Secretariat, the Deaf Care and Rehabilitation Association in the capital, Al-Amal School for the Deaf in Madhbah, and Al-Mustaqbal School for the Deaf in Shu'ub.
The final day, attended by Youth Ministry Undersecretary of Youth and Sports for the Sports Sector Hussein Al-Khawlani and Ministry Federation Director and Tournament Supervisor Wael Al-Qurashi, featured the final match between the Deaf Association team and Al-Amal School team. The match ended in a goalless draw, sending the game to a penalty shootout, which the Deaf Association team won 3-2. The association team thus claimed the tournament title, while Al-Amal School finished runners-up.
A cultural competition was also held on the sidelines of the tournament, with Al-Awal School winning the cultural competition title. At the closing ceremony, President of the General Federation for Deaf Sports Captain Ahmed Al-Qamra said there were no losers in the tournament, stressing that everyone was a winner through fair competition among the participating teams, as well as through promoting activity among deaf players and developing their abilities.
He noted that the tournament was held to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and praised the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Youth and Sports Welfare Fund for their support, as well as the participating teams for their engagement and commitment to making the tournament a success. Al-Qamra expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the tournament and helped present it in a manner befitting the deaf community and its important role in society. He also called on deaf people to actively participate in tomorrow's central event commemorating the birth of the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers, peace and blessings be upon him.
