Sana'a:A specialized workshop titled 'From Destructive Competition to Smart Competition and Integration Strategies for Building a More Sustainable Telecommunications Market' began on Tuesday in Sana'a, organized by the University of Digital Sciences.
According to Yemen News Agency, the three-day event gathers participants from national telecommunications companies to tackle issues related to competition in the telecom market. The focus is on addressing challenges posed by destructive competitive practices, their costs, and their impacts on companies' profitability, investment capacity, and market sustainability.
The workshop aims to redefine market competition by moving away from resource-depleting methods to a model based on smart competition, innovation, value creation, and sustainability. This new approach is intended to balance effective competition with the protection of companies' ability to invest and grow, ultimately improving customer experience and fostering a more sustainable telecommunications sector.
Participants will discuss several key topics, such as the current state of market competition, the hidden costs of destructive practices, the principles of smart competition, and opportunities for integration among companies. A draft smart competition charter will also be developed during the sessions.
The discussions will distinguish between value-creating competition and practices that erode resources and profitability. Emphasis will be placed on promoting innovation, integration, and competitive practices that support long-term growth and sustainability.
Expected outcomes of the workshop include a shared vision of competitive challenges, better understanding of destructive competition effects and costs, identification of potential integration areas, initial initiatives to enhance market sustainability, and the preparation of a draft smart competition charter.
The event is attended by key figures such as the chairpersons of the boards of directors of Yemen Mobile, YOU, Sabafon, and Y, along with executive directors and department heads. It underscores the University of Digital Sciences' commitment to fostering dialogue on economic and technological issues and expanding cooperation with vital sectors to promote expertise exchange, innovation, integration, and sustainability in the telecommunications industry.
