Significant Achievements in Development of Small and Micro Enterprises in Yemen in First Half of 2025

Sana'a: The General Authority for the Development of Small and Micro Enterprises has made substantial progress in implementing projects that have notably impacted thousands of Yemeni families during the first half of 2025. The Authority has focused on creating sustainable job opportunities and supporting local production through initiatives in key sectors such as agriculture, livestock, food, textile industries, and traditional crafts. According to Yemen News Agency, the Authority's Chairman, Ahmed Al-Kubsi, highlighted the collaboration with various supporting entities to achieve these accomplishments. The initiatives have provided affordable financing for entrepreneurial ventures in both urban and rural areas, aligning with the broader goals of sustainable community empowerment and economic development. The Authority has strategically focused on six critical value chains-dairy, sesame, palm, cotton, leather, and fish. In the dairy sector, a comprehensive survey in Al-Hodeidah Governorate aimed to establis h a database on local dairy production, while the sesame sector saw documentation and study of sesame oil presses along the Tihama coast. In the palm sector, solar power systems are being installed for palm farmers to revitalize agricultural land, complemented by livestock distribution to assist affected farmers. In the cotton sector, the Authority launched a project empowering families to produce cotton garments, aiming to improve design and tailoring skills. The leather sector saw the introduction of a technical guide and training programs to enhance local leather processing. Furthermore, the fisheries sector received support through interest-free loans for fishermen and the establishment of fish sales points to boost local marketing. The Authority also implemented economic empowerment projects, such as the Livestock Breeding and Dairy Production Support Project, which provided interest-free loans to poor families in Al-Hodeidah for dairy cattle breeding. In Ibb Governorate, the Livelihood Improvement Pro ject targeted low-income families with loans and training for goat breeding. Training and capacity-building programs have been a cornerstone of the Authority's efforts, with various initiatives to enhance skills in cheese production, leather manufacturing, and textile industries. Additionally, microfinance programs have been established to provide sustainable financial solutions for small enterprises, ensuring continuous community support. Comprehensive studies and research have guided these developmental projects, ensuring interventions are well-targeted and effective in addressing the needs of the most disadvantaged areas. These efforts reflect the Authority's commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and improving the livelihoods of Yemeni families.
