Sana'a: The Southeast Sana'a Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict in the case of fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering perpetrated by the so-called Tihama "Flavor" Investment and Real Estate Development Company, setting the date for the verdict at the next session.
According to Yemen News Agency, the prosecution has charged 41 defendants, including Fathia Ahmed Mohammed Al-Mahwiti, with defrauding more than 13,000 citizens and misappropriating 56,927,963,000 Yemeni riyals, 4,660,000 Saudi riyals, and 3,095,000 US dollars. They are also accused of money laundering through the acquisition of financial, real estate, and movable assets in their own names.
The decision was issued in a session presided over by Judge Jaber Mughlis, head of the court, and attended by Prosecutor Abdulkhaliq Al-Muhaqari. The court closed the pleadings after more than three years of proceedings, with the parties satisfied with the evidence and arguments they had presented, and reserved judgment.
The court emphasized the need for sufficient time to deliver the verdict, given the extensive case file, which comprises tens of thousands of pages, including the report of the appointed accountant.
Since January 2023, the prosecution had received thousands of complaints alleging the embezzlement of billions of riyals, in addition to sums in Saudi riyals and US dollars, through the company's branches in the capital and several other governorates. Investigations confirmed that the company employed a Ponzi scheme.
