Sana'a: The Specialized Criminal Division in the capital Sana'a granted a final opportunity on Sunday to the defendants in a British intelligence spy cell to present their case at the next hearing.
According to Yemen News Agency, the hearing was presided over by Judge Abdullah al-Najjar and included Judges Hussein al-Azzi and Mohammed al-Sufyani as members. Prosecutor Ali al-Julahi and Division Secretary Abdulsalam Ubad were also present. During the session, the court heard the prosecution's response, which upheld the initial verdict, alongside the defendants' defense.
The initial verdict had convicted nine defendants, sentencing eight of them to death. The prosecution's evidence claimed their involvement in espionage activities for Saudi Arabia and Britain during the period between 2021 and 2025. The defendants were accused of gathering sensitive information and monitoring individuals and locations within Sana'a. In exchange for their activities, they reportedly received money and gold, with the alleged aim of compromising Yemen's security and recruiting agents for foreign intelligence.
