Sana'a: During April, the Public Works Sector in Hamdan District, Sana'a Province, carried out extensive excavation, filling, surveying, and water-level grading works on numerous roads and streets across various areas and neighborhoods of the district.
According to Yemen News Agency, the works included excavation, surveying, and grading to improve drainage of rainwater and floods along ten streets in several neighborhood units within the district. A report issued by the Public Works Office detailed that the projects were implemented in Neighborhood Unit 675 in Al-Sawdah area, covering streets of various widths and lengths.
In Neighborhood Unit 676, located in Saleh Sadiq neighborhood, water-level surveying and grading were conducted on a 10-meter-wide road extending 200 meters. Additionally, a 20-meter-wide street extending 250 meters in the Upper Mahjar area of Dhala' received similar attention.
The report further detailed works in Neighborhood Unit 574 in the Zainab neighborhood, where excavation and surveying were carried out on Street 24 over a 350-meter stretch. In Shaharah area, Al-Kharbah neighborhood, similar works were implemented on a 14-meter-wide street.
In Neighborhood Unit 575, efforts covered 300 meters, including the removal and transportation of waste and soil along the main Sana'a-Al Mahwit-Amran-Hodeidah road. The report highlighted efforts to preserve master plans and enforce urban planning, with 12 building violations on vacant and agricultural lands removed in April.
Seven violations were addressed in the western sector, including the removal of walls, stone foundations, and base structures on lands where construction is prohibited. Five violations were removed in the eastern sector, focusing on illegal foundation structures and unauthorized constructions in Al-Arrah and Madam areas.
The Facilities and Markets Department conducted campaigns targeting markets and public roads, removing over 20 market stalls and 10 vegetable carts from Shamlan and Hamdan markets. Inspections on several streets led to the removal of additional market stalls and vegetable carts, with qat vendors relocated to designated markets.
Hamdan District Public Works Director, Engineer Abed Shaya, emphasized the continuation of rehabilitation, maintenance, development, and road expansion services as part of the current year's investment program plan. He noted the commitment to overcoming challenges in flood damage mitigation, rainwater drainage, and public service expansion despite limited resources.
Engineer Shaya praised the support from the governorate's local authority leadership and the Public Works Sector, which has facilitated the sector's activities. He affirmed the dedication of the sector's staff and field teams in completing projects and improving public services for citizens amidst economic challenges.
