Sana'a:The Yemeni Remote Sensing Center, supported by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, inaugurated the First National Conference on Remote Sensing, Geospatial Information, and Space Technology. This event coincides with World Space Week and operates under the theme "Yemen from Space."
According to Yemen News Agency, the two-day conference aims to enhance the application of remote sensing, geospatial data, and space technology to aid national planning and decision-making. It seeks to explore the latest advancements in geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI), earth observation, space technology localization, and national capacity building.
During the opening ceremony, Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Eng. Mohammad Al-Mahdi, emphasized the ministry's dedication to facilitating a national forum for knowledge exchange and digital transformation. This initiative aligns with the government's national strategy. Minister Al-Mahdi highlighted the pivotal role of the Yemeni Remote Sensing Center as a cornerstone in national decision-making. He mentioned ongoing efforts to transform the center into a strategic partner for government entities, private sectors, and civil society, providing services in agriculture, urban planning, disaster management, and water resource monitoring.
Eng. Nabil Kamal, Chairman of the Yemeni Remote Sensing Center, underscored the importance of accurate knowledge of national resources for effective planning. He outlined priorities such as updating base maps and integrating data into a secure geospatial platform to prevent operational duplication and optimize resource allocation.
The conference featured attendees including Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources Ammar Al-Karim, Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy and Water Adel Bader, and other key officials. The first day's sessions included research presentations on topics like geospatial AI, urban digital twins, and space technology applications, alongside an exhibition showcasing university research on spatial data and AI applications in various fields.
