Taiz:The Yemeni Center for Human Rights has condemned Saudi-led airstrikes targeting markets and civilian areas across several Yemeni governorates. Recently, these airstrikes hit commercial shops in the central market of Taiz, specifically at Mawiyah Junction in Al-Ta'iziyah district, resulting in numerous casualties, including children.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Center asserted that targeting a market crowded with civilians and commercial facilities is a war crime and a crime against humanity. Such actions defy international laws and regulations.
The Center highlighted that the direct attacks on civilian-populated areas violate International Humanitarian Law, particularly the 1977 Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols. These laws prohibit indiscriminate attacks that harm civilians and civilian property.
The statement further noted that these actions represent a gross violation of human rights. The perpetrators, those who ordered and funded these attacks, remain liable for international criminal prosecution, regardless of time. The Center urged the UN Security Council and the United Nations to take immediate action to stop these crimes against the Yemeni people.
Additionally, the Center called for an end to support for the coalition's violations and adherence to the UN Charter's obligations for maintaining peace and security. It also urged global human rights organizations to condemn the aggression, apply legal pressure to prosecute those responsible, and implement an embargo on arms supply to the aggressors.
