Sana'a: The Agricultural Materials Importers and Manufacturers Sector at the Sana'a Chamber of Commerce and Industry today elected a new administrative body, headed by Walid Al-Sari, to revitalize its role in ensuring national food security.
According to Yemen News Agency, the new leadership also includes Abdulmalik Mansour Al-Dhubaibi as Deputy Head, Bakil Hussein Al-Ghaithi as Rapporteur, and Saif Nasser Dahmash, Ameen Dhaifallah Manji, and Tawfiq Abdulkarim Al-Maswari as members.
Mohammed Salah, Vice Chairman of the Chamber's Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of the agricultural inputs sector in supporting farmers and improving domestic production. He praised the efforts of traders and importers in confronting current economic challenges despite the difficult circumstances facing the country.
Salah pointed out that this restructuring comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Chamber's leadership to address challenges facing various sectors and to activate their role in supporting the national economy. He reaffirmed the Chamber's commitment to providing technical and administrative support to the agricultural materials sector to enhance the business environment, encourage agricultural investment, achieve food security, and create new job opportunities.
Mohammed Al-Qasimi, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, reaffirmed the ministry's support for partnership with the private sector to develop the agricultural input market in line with legal frameworks that protect the sector and enhance income.
During the election - attended by Issam Shumaila, Deputy Head of the Commercial and Industrial Sectors, Abdullah Al-Barawi, Head of the Contractors and Suppliers Sector, Adel Al-Khawlani, Executive Director of the Chamber, and Khaled Al-Alfi, Director of Sector Management - the newly elected Head of the Agricultural Materials Sector stressed that the new administration will focus on securing supply chains of agricultural materials to boost plant and livestock production.
He noted that the sector has a plan to facilitate the import of agricultural inputs and address challenges facing the industry, emphasizing that priority will be given to localizing agricultural input manufacturing to increase the competitiveness of Yemeni products, with a long-term vision to expand into exports and reduce dependency on imports - as part of a strategic private sector plan to combat food insecurity.
It is worth noting that the Agricultural Materials Sector represents one of the key pillars of Yemen's food production, providing farmers with seeds, fertilizers, and essential agricultural tools.
