Sana'a: Ambassador Ismail Al-Mutawakel, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Cooperation, accompanied by the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Julien Harneis, visited Sana'a International Airport today. Al-Mutawakel and Harneis were briefed on the extent of the damage to the airport's infrastructure as a result of the Israeli aggression, which resulted in the destruction of its buildings, halls, main runway, control tower, electrical systems, radars, navigation equipment, and civilian aircraft.
According to Yemen News Agency, the visit highlighted the severe impact on the airport's operational capabilities, affecting both domestic and international flights. The destruction of critical infrastructure components has rendered the airport non-functional, severely disrupting humanitarian aid and essential supplies to the region.
The briefing included an assessment of the immediate needs for reconstruction and the resources required to restore the airport to operational status. The presence of the United Nations representatives underscores the international concern regarding the situation and the necessity for coordinated efforts to address the damage.
This visit is part of broader efforts to evaluate the humanitarian and infrastructural impact of the conflict, with a focus on mobilizing international support for reconstruction and recovery. The comprehensive damage assessment will inform future actions to ensure the resumption of airport operations and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected areas.
