Foreign Ministry Criticizes UN Envoy for Overlooking Yemen’s Plight

General

Sana'a: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has raised concerns regarding the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, highlighting his apparent focus on the Yemeni Armed Forces' efforts to break the blockade on Yemen, while seemingly disregarding the ongoing 12-year blockade by Saudi Arabia. This blockade, as per the UN, has resulted in the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Foreign Ministry issued a press release suggesting that the UN envoy might have forgotten his role as an envoy to Yemen and not to Saudi Arabia. The Ministry criticized the envoy for expressing concern over the blockade of Yemeni ports while failing to address the broader humanitarian impact of the Saudi blockade.

The Ministry further stated that such positions inadvertently encourage the continuation of Saudi actions against Yemen and seem to obscure the violations of international norms and laws by the Saudi regime. This stance, as emphasized by the Ministry, is unacceptable to the Government of the Republic of Yemen and disregards the suffering endured by its people.

Yemen's Foreign Ministry reiterated the nation's legitimate right to take necessary measures to lift the blockade. It concluded by affirming that the widespread demonstrations by the Yemeni populace have empowered their armed forces with a mandate to impose a counter-blockade on Saudi ports until the siege on Yemen is lifted.
