Muscat: Ibb governor Abdulwahid Salah inaugurated on Saturday a free medical camp for cataract removal and lens implantation at Nasser General Hospital in the provincial capital.
According to Yemen News Agency, the six-day camp is being organized by Al-Basar International Foundation through its Mecca Eye Hospital in Jiblah, with funding and supervision from Direct Aid Society - Yemen Office. In coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the Ministry of Health's General Medical Camps Department and its Ibb office, the camp aims to perform 460 cataract removal and lens implantation surgeries, while providing free medications and reading glasses.
During the inauguration, the governor highlighted the significance of free medical camps in alleviating the citizens' suffering amid the challenging circumstances resulting from the repercussions of the aggression and blockade. He recognized the organizations supporting these medical camps that provide essential healthcare services to various segments of society, particularly impoverished people and low-income families.
Salah also appreciated the efforts of the Ibb Health Office and Medical Camps Department for coordinating and organizing the camp, as well as Nasser Hospital for accommodating patients and ensuring proper arrangements. He urged healthcare organizations and business leaders to support humanitarian initiatives that deliver free medical services to the most vulnerable people across the province's districts.
The governor reiterated his commitment to providing the necessary facilities to ensure the success of medical camps and enhance healthcare services for citizens. Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammed Al-Humairi, representative of Al-Basar International Foundation in Yemen, stated that the foundation aims through its free medical camps to relieve the burden on people suffering from blindness who cannot afford the costs of cataract treatment, surgery, and lens implantation. He confirmed that the necessary resources had been secured to operate the camp and receive and examine eligible patients.
Dr. Essam Al-Makarmani, director of the Medical Camps Department at the Ibb Health Office, mentioned that the camp is part of efforts to address the needs of eye patients and enable them to undergo cataract surgery, given the high cost of such procedures at private hospitals. He emphasized that Ibb requires more medical camps of this nature to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable groups and reduce rates of blindness across the province's districts.
