Sana'a: Secretary-General of the Mahweet Local Council Dr. Ali Al-Zaykam on Monday launched a free medical camp for eye care and surgery at the governorate's Republican Hospital, organized by the Noor Al-Awn - Yemen camp to perform cataract removal and lens implantation surgeries.
According to Yemen News Agency, the six-day camp is being held in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the Ministry of Health and Environment's Medical Camps Department, and the Mahweet Health and Environment Office. It forms part of humanitarian and medical efforts to improve healthcare services and ease the suffering of eye patients.
Al-Zaykam stressed the importance of such medical camps in providing free healthcare and reducing the financial burden on patients, particularly amid the difficult circumstances facing the country. He praised the efforts of the organizers and medical teams serving patients.
He described the camp as a humanitarian initiative that will help patients suffering from cataracts restore their vision, urging eligible patients to benefit from the services provided.
The province's Health and Environment Office Director Dr. Amin Habish said patients would be received during the camp's initial days for medical examinations and assessments before undergoing cataract removal and lens implantation surgeries.
He highlighted the importance of medical camps in reaching patients who cannot afford treatment, while raising awareness about the importance of early eye examinations and timely treatment to prevent complications that could lead to impaired or lost vision.
Republican Hospital Director Hamid Al-Sadiq emphasized the camp's role in providing free specialized eye care, particularly for patients requiring surgical intervention for cataract removal and lens implantation. He commended the efforts of the organizing bodies and participating medical teams.
He added that the hospital was committed to providing the necessary facilities to ensure the camp's success, receiving patients and delivering medical care in accordance with approved health procedures and standards.
