Human Rights Authority Condemns Attacks in Taiz

Taiz:The National Human Rights Authority has strongly condemned the recent attacks carried out by Saudi forces and their mercenaries in Taiz province.

According to Yemen News Agency, the authority's statement described these actions as blatant violations of international humanitarian laws and norms. The authority denounced the deliberate mortar shelling of civilian homes in Al-Armah village, Saber Al-Mawadem district, resulting in the death of a girl. It also highlighted the danger posed to hundreds of families by mortar attacks on residential areas in Al-Jumla and Al-Qasr Roundabout in Salh district, which have spread fear among women and children.

Additionally, the statement condemned two airstrikes on the government complex in Same' district and another on Huwrah Pass, labeling them as clear attacks on civilian infrastructure. The authority asserted that these acts constitute war crimes under Article 8 of the Rome Statute and represent grave violations of Article 51 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits targeting civilians.

The authority held Saudi forces responsible for these crimes and their consequences, urging the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and the UN envoy to publicly denounce these attacks. It also called on local and international human rights organizations to document these violations and refer them to the International Criminal Court, appealing to the international community to push for an end to the aggression, lift the blockade, and ensure the protection of civilians in Taiz and other affected regions.
