Sana'a: The Humanitarian Coordination Center (HOCC) has issued an official notice to international airlines concerning risks to air navigation safety at Israeli airports.
According to Yemen News Agency, the notice follows the Israeli escalation with its decision to expand operations against Gaza, which has prompted the Yemeni Armed Forces to announce a comprehensive ban on navigation to and from Israeli airports. The ban, focusing on repeated targeting of key airports like Ben Gurion Airport, is set to commence on May 4, 2025, from 10:42 PM Sana'a time and will be indefinite.
The HOCC's statement underscores Yemen's commitment to civil aviation safety, urging international airlines to heed the announcement and cancel flights to Israeli airports to ensure the safety of aircraft and passengers. The Center has communicated these significant risks directly to international airlines, highlighting the ongoing dangers to air navigation at these sites.
The notice further references provisions from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), emphasizing the legal duty of air operators to avoid flights to Israeli airports due to security risks, including missile attacks. The HOCC warns that continuing operations under these circumstances would violate international safety standards and potentially endanger lives and property.
The Humanitarian Coordination Center holds airlines accountable for any incidents resulting from flights to Israeli airports, stressing the importance of adhering to international safety requirements.
