Ibb: Secretary-General of the Local Council in Ibb governorate, Amin Al-Warafi, initiated a hygiene and environmental awareness campaign on Friday. This initiative, executed by the Third Zone of the Hygiene and Improvement Fund with community involvement, is part of the activities commemorating the Prophet's birthday (Mawlid al-Nabawi).
According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative's goal is to establish model streets characterized by cleanliness and environmental aesthetics, while also fostering community partnerships to maintain public hygiene. This effort is intended to serve as a blueprint for expanding similar initiatives across additional streets in the city.
During the launch event, Al-Warafi evaluated the level of official and community engagement with the initiative, alongside the progress of the environmental awareness campaign. This campaign, targeting housewives, is conducted by 65 volunteers from Ibb University, aiming to enhance awareness about effective waste management practices and environmental preservation.
Al-Warafi highlighted the importance of community initiatives as crucial support systems for hygiene and improvement efforts. He noted their role in promoting a culture of shared environmental responsibility and urban aesthetics, reflecting the religious occasion's significance for the governorate's residents. He urged collective efforts to improve hygiene standards, prevent random dumping, and enhance the urban appearance of Ibb City through tree planting and public facility maintenance.
Adel Omar, Director of the Governorate's Hygiene Fund, explained that this initiative aligns with the Fund's strategy to involve the community in cleanliness efforts. The goal is to make Ibb cleaner, suitable for the occasion, and reflect the community's awareness and responsibility towards the environment. The initiative includes installing small waste bins at public facility entrances and distributing waste management guidelines to residents.
Khaled Sharaf, Head of the Fund's Third Zone, emphasized the importance of community partnerships in this initiative. He encouraged residents of the targeted neighborhoods to actively participate, promote hygienic practices at home and in public spaces, and collaborate with hygiene and awareness teams to turn these streets into models of cleanliness and urban beauty.
