Improved Wheat Harvest Launched for Winter Season in Jahana, Sana’a

Jahana: The Eastern Sector Multipurpose Agricultural Development Association launched the first phase of the improved wheat harvest for the winter season of 1447 AH at the Al-Yafeiah Nursery in Jahana District, as part of its efforts to support local agriculture and achieve food security and self-sufficiency.

According to Yemen News Agency, the association's president, Abdul Razzaq Al-Makhrafi, explained that the seeds from this harvest phase, estimated at ten tons, will be allocated to fund the Community Seed Bank, which aims to provide improved seeds to farmers in the Eastern Sector. He pointed out that this achievement will contribute to reducing reliance on imported wheat and enhance the drive towards self-sufficiency, especially in light of the current circumstances facing the country.

Al-Makhrafi explained that the association has plans this year to produce and cultivate 20,000 almond seedlings, ten thousand grape seedlings of various types, and ten thousand almond seedlings (peach and apricot), as part of the association's programs to encourage farmers and expand agricultural areas. Meanwhile, the directorate's agricultural sector official, Muhammad Al-Hajj, praised the association's efforts in planting a large area with wheat, aiming to distribute improved seeds to farmers and guide them toward growing grains and legumes in the sector.

For his part, the association's sustainable projects manager, Qasim Al-Azab, explained that the association is working to expand the cultivation of improved wheat and provide loans to farmers, considering them important pillars for advancing agriculture and achieving self-sufficiency in this crop. He stated that the area planted with wheat in the nursery this season is estimated at more than 500 acres.

The inauguration was attended by the association's head of oversight, Maher Al-Dhamari, and warehouse manager, Abdul Aziz Al-Qat'a.
