Insan Organization Denounces Attack on Fishermen Off Taiz Coast

Taiz:The Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms has issued a strong condemnation of the Saudi targeting of fishing boats off the Al-Kadha coast in Dhubab District, Taiz Governorate. This attack resulted in the deaths of eight fishermen and left others injured.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Insan Organization emphasized that targeting Yemeni fishermen as they work to earn their livelihoods, relying on the sea as their main source of income, is a clear violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions regarding civilian protection.

The organization highlighted that the attack demonstrates a continued disregard for civilian lives and property. It also raises serious concerns about adherence to the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution in military operations. The statement underscored that fishermen are civilians who are entitled to protection under international humanitarian law and warned that such attacks exacerbate Yemen's severe humanitarian crisis by depriving entire families of their primary income source.

Furthermore, the organization called on the United Nations, the international community, and relevant human rights bodies to end their silence and apply pressure to stop ongoing violations against civilians and civilian objects in Yemen, ensuring their protection. It also warned that ongoing civilian casualties and attacks on livelihoods, without accountability, foster a culture of impunity and pose a serious threat to human security and peace. The organization urged urgent action and justice for the victims and their families.
